The minute I walked through the gate, I fell immediately in love with this little jewel.
The cottage's atmosphere exudes a much loved home. I felt completely at home and I didn't want to leave. I thoroughly recommend you spend some time here.
Wow, what can I say! We have had a really lovely stay at Coastal Hideaway with our five whippets. It is so cosy and a real home from home and it was so obvious how much thought and love has gone into making it the perfect holiday getaway. It was so well appointed with absolutely anything you might need while away from home. We mainly used the cottage as a base from which to explore the local area and it really is ideally placed for those wanting to do visits to the nearby Thomas Hardy National Trust properties, Buton Bradstock, Lyme Regis etc. As runners we also enjoyed the run across the causeway to Portland too.
But the unexpected bonus for us was that the cottage really did feel, just like its name suggests, a total hideaway and a real escape from the world. It was lovely to come home from a day’s sightseeing to cook a meal and cosy up and watch a film or read for the evening. For those looking for a really quiet escape, I couldn't recommend this cottage more.
Also, as I said we stayed here with our five whippets. It is incredibly difficult to find quality holiday accommodation where you are allowed to stay with so many dogs, but they are our family and we don’t enjoy holidaying without them. Not only did Tracy and Mark embrace this and make us feel totally welcome, they also left a lovely welcome pack for the dogs with dog chews, toys, poo bags etc as well as plenty of throws for the furniture, so that we could relax and really treat the place like our own. Finally I must mention the garden, because (as promised) it is totally secure with absolutely no way for the dogs to get out (even for the smallest breeds I would say) – which once again meant we could relax and just leave the back door open while we were in without worrying that they might escape. (Sadly we’ve learned from experience that many cottages advertise secure gardens but they still have gaps under hedges, under gates and even (at one property) through the gaps between the bars on the gates. No such problems at Coastal Hideway, so perfect for us!)
Just to address some of the issues raised in previous reviews, yes the stairs are steep and yes there is no off street parking at the property, but I don't really see that Tracy and Mark can do much about either of these issues. We followed the excellent instructions to park in nearby Shrubbery Lane, which was less than one minute walk away and suited us perfectly. Please don't let any concerns over the parking put you off staying here, it’s really not an issue. I also saw a review mentioning barking back and forth between a guest’s dog and a nearby neighbour’s dog. Once again, I can only say that this wasn't an issue for us, after the initial arrival and a two-minute bark back and forth, which is clearly natural for dogs in a new environment communicating with dogs guarding their own territories. The cheery neighbour nearby called over “Don't worry they're just saying hello” to which I replied “Yes ours are wagging their tails” and she replied “Yes mine is too.” Things quickly died down and we didn't hear any more of the other dog barking during our four-day stay.
Finally, I must give a mention to Mark and Tracy themselves as they were the perfect hosts, so friendly and welcoming. Communication was excellent and, not that we had any issues while we were there, I got the impression that if we did they would have been resolved in a heartbeat. Apologies for the long review and well done if you’re still reading this far, I just thought that this little gem deserved it and I’m sure we will be back!
A Fabulous cosy cottage to stay and extremely comfortable. Location is perfect for Portland and Weymouth only being minutes away and lots to see. Dorset is a great county with so many fantastic places to visit. The hosts Tracy and Mark have thought of everything to ensure we had a great stay with our dogs. The little details made it truly special. Only a small compromise to park your car on a nearby street which is only an 2 minute walk although the benefit of staying in this cottage outweighs this. Thank you to Tracy and Mark
We have just had a fabulous stay with our two hounds at Coastal Hideaway!
Absolutely everything you could need is provided, including sofa throws if you need them, dog toys, & lovely welcome pack for dogs. Even poo bags!
The cottage has a relaxed, friendly vibe that made for a really stress free stay.
Thanks Tracy for all the excellent info, directions etc 🙂
A nicelty presented cottage which is well equipped. Very clean and the hosts are really friendly. It's in a really nice location with nice walks and sea views near by.
Would happily stay again.
Lovely home with very well equipped kitchen, secure garden especially important to us as we took our 2 dogs (home from home). Unable to park outside the property, as explained in write up however, we had no problems finding parking in next street (2 minutes walk at most.)
Ideal location to explore the local area. Lots of places of interest within minutes by car or within walking distance if of average fitness.
Mark/Tracy very responsive to messages if any queries. Would recommend.
Lovely little place with great hosts!
We had a lovely weekend stay here. Only a few minutes walk away from Pirates Cove. Very cosy cottage and nice to come back to the fire. Feeding the fish was an added novelty. Would definitely recommend
Beautiful little cottage perfect for anyone looking to explore Weymouth and it's surrounding areas. The cottage was exactly as described looks exactly like the pictures the hosts were very friendly and quickly responded to message. thank you for letting the cottage out, would highly reccommend so thank you again
We had a great time. The house was lovely and instructions and communications from Mark and Tracy were clear and helpful. We managed to park within a 2-3 minute easy walk from the house every day we were there. The garden was secure even for our small dog and we enjoyed feeding the fish.
Thank you for letting us stay in your hideaway. It's a beautiful home in a fantastic location. We walked everywhere around Weymouth and across to Portland. Plenty to do locally and a great bolt hole to explore Dorset. The home is so well equipped it's like being in your own home, especially the kitchen which has everything you'd expect and more. Spotlessly clean. Dogs are so well catered for. My little boy loved feeding the fish every morning too. Great find. Thoroughly recommend.
Lovely quaint little cottage nestled away off the main road. Perfect location for our South West Coast Path hike and lovely to come home to rest our tired feet. Lovely sized living room which was really cozy and relaxing. The kitchen was super well equipped and the supplies of laundry detergent and some food cupboard essentials was very welcome indeed (having mild and coffee available as soon as we walked through the door after a 17 mile hike was just the best thing!)
The garden is gorgeous with the Koi Carp pool and the exotic plants (beautiful Birds of Paradise plants) The beds were super comfortable and the bathroom well equipped with a lovely shower. Mark and Tracy were fantastic hosts. HIghly reccommended.
